MCO 4.0 - Day 10

10 June 2021     Day 10 of Movement Control Order 4.0

This morning, I woke up and got irritated with how my bangs were poking my eyes, making them really itchy and causing me to look like a sheepdog. So I did something that I had not done for about 24 years. I trimmed my own fringe! The last time I did that was in England during my undergraduate days. All these years, I would either run to Mummy or make a trip to the hairdresser's for a fringe trim. Now with the hair salons closed and not wanting to get too close to my mum lest I unwittingly pass the virus to her, I had to pick up the scissors. And it was a job well done. When I showed the result to hubby, his comment was, "Of course it's good. You have been practising with my hair."😂

Reminiscing the days when one was young, sweet and pretty.

Marion Grasby's Balinese Coconut Turmeric marinade is extremely versatile and her cooking channel offers a variety of dishes that make use of this marinade. After procuring the precious marinade online the first time round, I had proceeded to make her Coconut Turmeric Roast Chicken with it. Hubby fell madly in love with it and  requested for it repeatedly. Deciding to be a little adventurous today, I used the marinade to try another recipe of Marion's : Coconut Turmeric Chicken Curry.

Her recipe calls for kaffir lime leaves to be added but I didn't have those in my pantry. Neither did I have curry leaves. No way would I go to the market or supermarket just to obtain them. So the next best thing I could find for replacement were lime zest and lime juice. And to suit hubby's palate, I added bird's eyes chillies.

I was disappointed to find that the angled luffa that hubby had bought from the Zombie Farm were all competing with Granny to see who would be the oldest. They were all inedible! As I had already marinated the prawns to complement the angled luffa, I made an impromptu change to the dinner menu : Prawns Omelette.

Hubby's verdict? He enjoyed both dishes immensely.

MCO 4.0 - Day 09

9 June 2021     Day 09 of Movement Control Order 4.0

As we had some urgent matters to see to after hubby returned from work, I had no time to cook. After we settled our stuff, we got our dinner from Kenny Rogers, making use of another good deal from Shopee. Hubby had earlier pounced on a Buy 1, Get 1 Free Satay Ayam Meal deal from Shopee, which was to be redeemed before the end of this month. So since we were out and there was no time to cook, it seemed like the ideal opportunity to use this voucher.

It was hubby's first time stepping foot into Kinta City since this lockdown. Seeing the near-deserted mall, he was a little saddened. He said it felt like being in a ghost town.

MCO 4.0 - Day 08

8 June 2021     Day 08 of Movement Control Order 4.0

Steamed eggs with minced meat has never gone down well with me, but hubby loves it. I do make this dish fairly often because it's fuss-free and just perfect for a weeknight dinner. Then I stumbled upon a recipe in the blog The Woks Of Life, and thought it's a brilliant twist to this dish. Instead of steaming the minced meat together with the eggs, the marinated minced meat was stir-fried on its own and poured atop the eggs which had luxuriated in its steam bath. It definitely involves more labour, but tastes way better. I especially loved tasting and smelling the minced ginger in the meat.

MCO 4.0 - Day 07

7 June 2021     Day 07 of Movement Control Order 4.0

It feels like a Sunday today because it's a public holiday. Again, hubby and I cooked in tandem. This time I dealt with the meat while he was tasked with the vegetables.

MCO 4.0 - Day 06

6 June 2021     Day 06 of Movement Control Order 4.0

When hubby asked what he should cook for me this long weekend, I was quick to reply, "Fried beehoon, please!"

So tonight, we had Chef Derrick's Fried Beehoon. I merely assisted with the cutting and washing. As always, he fried an enormous portion, so that's tomorrow's breakfast settled too! Yayyy!

MCO 4.0 - Day 05

5 June 2021     Day 05 of Movement Control Order 4.0

After a Zumba session during a stormy evening, dinner was cooked in tandem. Hubby got the short end of the stick : his job was to fry the fish. I had the better deal : stir-frying the vegetables was my task. Heheheheh!

MCO 4.0 - Day 04 (EMCO Day 14)

4 June 2021     Day 04 of Movement Control Order 4.0

Day 14 of Enhanced Movement Control Order

Ipoh's EMCO ends today and we'll follow the Standard Operating Procedures of the nationwide MCO starting from tomorrow. The obvious differences are two persons per household are allowed out, travel is permitted within a 10 km radius, and jogging is permitted from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Although I now shy away from tofu and anything made from soybeans because of my medical condition, I cannot deprive hubby of them. Today, I served him one of his favourites : Guangxi Stuffed Tofu Puffs. He had also requested for Steamed Okra with Sambal.

My Minced Meat and Mushrooms sauce had made the Guangxi Stuffed Tofu Puffs dish a messy sight
