When hubby came back the other day from Jaya Grocer with two packets of fresine, I was stumped. I consider myself fairly knowledgeable where pasta is concerned as I know exactly what fettuccine, linguine, tagliatelle, conchiglie, penne, parppadelle, cannelloni, fusilli and farfalle are. But I’d never come across fresine. It is, apparently, made specifically at the Italian town, Gragnano, and is somewhat a cross between fettuccine and linguine. That’s another reason why we love to shop at Jaya Grocer. We are so spoilt for choice where imported and specialty foods are concerned. Moreover, their prices are reasonable and can give Aeon a run for its money.
So what did I do with the fresine? Well, today I delighted hubby with a Swedish Italian dish : Fresine with Meatballs in Brown Mushroom Sauce. To make the Swedish meatballs, I sourced the Internet and found some tips. I’d never thought of soaking white bread pieces in milk and mixing it with the ground beef. But it really works! The meatballs are not dry. Hubby kept repeating his approval in between mouthfuls. So whenever we crave for Ikea’s Swedish Meatballs, I can easily make them at home now.
Buon appetito!
